June Marathon Options (August Marathon Options are below.)

Option 1:  Run either the Inca Trail 26.2 Mile Marathon or the Inca Trail Classic 30K. The events are run at the same time, on similar courses, and have the same start and finish.

Option 2: No camping, some hiking. Stay at a hotel in the Sacred Valley. Take the train to Km 104, then hike 7 miles to Machu Picchu and arrive the same day as the marathon runners. See the description of the hike from Km 104 to Machu Picchu below*

Option 3: No camping, no hiking. Stay at a hotel in the Sacred Valley. Take the train all the way to Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu and arrive the same day as the marathon runners.

The morning of the Inca Trail marathon you will be picked up at your hotel and will travel by train along the Urubamba River to Chachabamba at Km 104 (7,200). Here the participants that have selected to do the optional hike to Machu Picchu will get off the train with an assistant guide and start their hike. The ones that prefer will continue by train to Aguas Calientes, at the base of Machu Picchu.

You must let us know in advance if you plan to do the 7 mile Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu, or continue on the train and follow the traditional route to Machu Picchu.

If you selected in advance to do the Inca Trail hike, you will follow this itinerary:

We cross the hanging bridge over the Urubamba River and hike uphill, passing Chachabamba. Along the way there are views of sparkling cascades and lush vegetation. After about 3 hours of moderate hiking we reach the site of Wiñay Wayna Forever Young at about 8,400 feet.

Descending into the cloud forest, we are surrounded by exotic varieties of plants, orchids and flowers. We continue for about 2 hours along a mostly shaded trail to Intipunku, the Gateway of the Sun, at 8,860 feet. Suddenly, the full grandeur of the world's greatest ruins are revealed: the domed peak of Huayna Picchu, and the Lost City of the Incas Machu Picchu at 7,900 feet. A 40 minute walk brings us down to Machu Picchu.

If you are not hiking, you will continue on the train to Aguas Calientes. In any case you will arrive the same day as the marathon runners.

If you want to hike the last portion of the Inca Trail, to ensure your spot we recommend that you reserve at least 6 months in advance of departure!

Optional hike: About 7 miles, or 5 to 6 hours.

August Marathon & Running Adventure Options

Great for a couple where one can run the marathon while the other one can EITHER run the Inca Trail Running Adventure with the additional night in Phuyupatamarca camp, OR hike the last portion of the Inca Trail and enter Machu Picchu through the Intipunko Sun Gate - the same entrance the runners take, OR take the train all the way to Machu Picchu.

Option 1: Run either the Inca Trail 26.2 Mile Marathon or the Inca Trail Classic 30K. The events are run at the same time, on similar courses, and have the same start and finish.

Option 2: Run the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Running Adventure - Start the trail a day earlier, run the Inca Trail in two days, and arrive in Machu Picchu the same day as the marathon runners.

Option 3: No camping, some hiking. Stay at a hotel in the Sacred Valley. Take the train to Km 104, then hike 7 miles to Machu Picchu and arrive the same day as the marathon runners. See the description of the hike from Km 104 to Machu Picchu above*

Option 4: No camping, no hiking. Stay at a hotel in the Sacred Valley. Take the train all the way to Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu and arrive the same day as the marathon runners.

Option 5: The Chasqui Challenge is a fabulous high mountain adventure that includes the Inca Trail Marathon and the Circuit around Mount Ausangate. Stay longer - additional 5 days!

Option 6: The Peruvian Andes Running Adventure is a fabulous high mountain adventure that includes the Inca Trail Running Adventure and the Circuit around Mount Ausangate.

Note: The runners that select the Inca Trail marathon and the runners that select to run the Inca Trail Running Adventure will arrive the same day in Machu Picchu, but each group will have different Inca Trail permits. Runners doing the trail in 2 days will have an additional camp in Phuyupatamarca. Let us know your choice before the Inca Trail permits are issued in January, so that permits are issued correctly.
