ITINERARY
LAKE TITICACA
3 days/2 nights
You have the option to go to Lake Titicaca before or after your adventure. We recommend before your adventure so that you do not miss the tour of Lima the last day of the main program.
Itinerary if you choose to go before your adventure:
Day 1: Lima - Juliaca - Puno
Arrival in Lima and fly to Juliaca.
Transfer from the Juliaca airport to Puno, visiting the ruins of Sillustani en route*. Sillustani is in a beautiful setting on a barren, windswept peninsula about 15 miles from Puno. Here we'll view chullpas (pre-Columbian funeral towers) that date from the time of the Inca occupation of this region, around the 15th century. These towers were built by and for people of the Aymara-speaking Colla tribe. Sillustani's stone architecture is complex and different in many ways from Inca stonework.
The entire Lake Titicaca region is inhabited by Quechua and Aymara people, whose way of life has not changed over the centuries as we'll see on your visit to the lake over the next two days.
You arrive to the beautiful Hotel Sonesta Posada del Inca – Puno on the shore of the lake (based on availability).
Dinner is on your own.
Day 2: Puno
Full day visit of Taquile and Uros Islands.
After breakfast, we leave from the dockside at the Puno harbor and travel by boat to the floating Uros Islands. From there we continue to Taquile Island, to visit a community of weavers and spinners who live in a Mediterranean-like setting on this, the highest navigable lake in the world - elevation is about 12,500' (3,810 meters) above sea level. Upon arrival to Taquile, we climb up the long, steep staircase from the docks to the village. After lunch in a typical restaurant in the island, we visit the local museum before boarding our boat for the return navigation to Puno.
Breakfast and lunch included. Dinner is on your own.
Overnight at Hotel Sonesta Posada del Inca – Puno.
